A French Art Deco Inspired Lady Chrome Absinthe Dispenser

An exceptional Art Deco Inspired Absinthe Dispenser, 59cm high and 29cm wide with a base diameter of 14.5cm, crafted in gleaming chrome with a sculptural female figure supporting the glass reservoir. The dispenser has four elegant taps and a finely cut glass container with fitted lid, designed for both practical use and dramatic display. Glasses shown are available separately. Absinthe dispensers first appeared in 19th-century France and Switzerland, when absinthe became the drink of choice for artists, writers, and café society. Known as “The Green Fairy,” absinthe was traditionally diluted with ice-cold water, dripped slowly over a sugar cube on a perforated spoon. The dispensers, often highly decorative, allowed several glasses to be prepared at once, their slow dripping taps creating the perfect louche. During the Belle Époque and into the 1920s and 30s, dispensers like this became centrepieces in Parisian cafés and bars, prized for their beauty as well as their function. Many featured figural forms in bronze, chrome, or nickel, reflecting the Art Nouveau and later Art Deco aesthetic. With the banning of absinthe in much of Europe by the early 20th century, original dispensers became scarce, surviving only in private collections and antique markets. Today, they are highly sought after both as functional pieces and as iconic symbols of café culture, Bohemian creativity, and Art Deco elegance.
